Why Isn't There One Fixed Number?
Every IELTS test date uses a new set of passages and recordings with slightly different difficulty, so a raw score of 30/40 might convert to Band 7 on one test and Band 6.5 or 7.5 on another. IELTS adjusts the conversion table for each version specifically to keep band scores comparable across different test dates — which is also why practicing under real timed conditions matters more than memorizing a single "magic number" of correct answers.
