How Do I Know Which Version to Take?
This depends entirely on your purpose for taking the test, not personal preference. Universities and most professional bodies require Academic. Immigration authorities in the UK, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand generally require General Training for most visa categories. Always confirm the exact requirement with the specific university, employer, or immigration authority before booking — the wrong version can't be swapped after your test date.

Does Preparation Differ Between the Two?
Listening and Speaking preparation is identical for both versions, so that work always carries over. What's the actual difference between IELTS Academic and General Training?

Which version do I need — Academic or General Training?
